Update on the assessment and authorisation of veterinary vaccines

Veterinary vaccines protect animals both individually and collectively against diseases caused by viral, bacterial or parasitic pathogens and, in the case of zoonoses, prevent the risk of transmission to humans. Their authorisation by the French Agency for Veterinary Medicinal Products (ANMV) is subject to the same strict requirements as for human vaccines. It takes account of quality, efficacy and safety criteria, for animals as well as for users and consumers of animal products.

Piscine Disinfectants for swimming pools and spas – be sure to follow the instructions for use

ANSES calls for continued vigilance to avoid accidents when using disinfectant products for swimming pools and spas. The Agency recommends strictly observing the instructions for use and safety precautions, only handling the products outdoors or otherwise in a well-ventilated room, not mixing them together in the same container and storing them away from humidity and heat. These products must also be kept out of the reach of children.

Herbicide-tolerant varieties (HTVs) are crop varieties that have been developed to be intentionally tolerant to specific herbicids. In France, HTVs of sunflower and rapeseed have been growing in popularity since the early 2010s. In a changing regulatory context and in order to address public concerns, the Agency has conducted several studies to assess the farming practices reshaped by the use of HTVs and identify their potential risks for farmers, consumers and the environment. We provide an overview of the challenges that need to be overcome to improve the traceability and monitoring of HTVs in France.

Since 1982, this unique scheme has been monitoring changes in antimicrobial resistance in all animal species in France. Run by two ANSES laboratories (Lyon and Ploufragan-Plouzané), it coordinates the work of more than 70 departmental laboratories in determining resistance to antimicrobials.
