ANSES and FREDON France renew and expand their partnership
ANSES and the FREDON France network have signed a new cooperation agreement to expand their partnership, which began in 2015. By combining their expertise, the two organisations are working together to better protect the health of plants and ecosystems and, through them, human health.
The new framework agreement was officially signed by Thierry Paul, President of FREDON France, and Benoit Vallet, Director General of ANSES, on 28 February 2025 at the Paris International Agricultural Show. The partnership is set to run for five years.
The two organisations are joining forces to better characterise:
- emerging threats to plant health, in the form of diseases, pests or invasive plants;
- the unintended effects of plant protection products;
- human health issues related to plants (allergy-causing species and stinging insect pests) and vector-borne diseases transmitted by insects.
As part of the expansion of their partnership, ANSES and FREDON France are reaffirming their desire to work together on joint projects, including training through research and the design and implementation of collaborative research work. Their collaboration also encompasses the definition of surveillance methodologies, in particular within the epidemiological surveillance platform for plant health, of which both organisations are members. Lastly, the partners undertake to share and pool data and biological materials, develop common tools and organise actions for the dissemination and transfer of knowledge.
The French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety (ANSES) provides public decision-makers with the scientific benchmarks needed to protect humans and the environment against health risks. It studies, assesses and monitors all the chemical, microbiological and physical risks to which humans, animals and plants are exposed, thereby helping the public authorities take the necessary measures, including in the event of a health crisis. A national agency working in the public interest, ANSES comes under the responsibility of the French Ministries of Health, the Environment, Agriculture and Labour.
FREDON France is the no. 1 network of experts working in the interests of plant, environmental and human health.
Bringing together all its regional federations in metropolitan France and the overseas territories, the FREDON France network represents more than 600 employees who take action in the field of health to support plant professionals (agricultural professionals, local authorities, companies, etc.) and private individuals. Thanks to its know-how and expertise, FREDON works as a plant health organisation that provides advice and takes initiatives in the surveillance, prevention and control of health hazards. This expertise is used to support plant, environmental and human health, fitting perfectly into the “One Health” concept.
